The Video that Changed Everything

On February 24th of last year, our perception of the world was forever changed by a video we saw. The footage showed an unarmed Ukrainian civilian standing fearlessly in front of a Russian tank in the small town of Bahkmach. Despite his small stature and lack of armor, weapons, or a backup, the man extended his arms toward the tank as if he could force it to come to a halt. He was driven by a higher purpose that was invisible to us, and he didn't seem to care about the potential consequences of confronting a military machine with his frail body. His courage and indomitable spirit left a profound impression on us, and we have been thinking about him ever since.

The Symbolism of Courage and Freedom

As we delved deeper into the roots of this selfless act, we stumbled upon a quote from Taras Shevchenko (famous Ukrainian poet, writer, and artist) that read, "Fight - Fight, God, help you! Truth is for you, strength is for you, and holy will!" It all made sense. We hold freedom as our highest value because, without it, life is not worth living. The Ukrainian man rushing in front of the tank was protecting his home country, his freedom, and his life.
The brave Ukrainian man lived to tell the tale, stating, "I didn’t feel fear, instead, in the middle, I was seething with anger at the aggressor." The courage he exhibited elicited a storm of emotions that had to find a way out of our feelings. We decided to create something that would match the colors of the Ukrainian flag, blue and yellow, which represent the skies and the life-giving grain growing in the wheat fields beneath. The colors of peace, hope, and freedom are displayed on buildings, in people's clothes, and worn with great pride by the Ukrainian people.
